Pica magazine is a collaboration based yearly publication. The initiative was started by students of the graphic design department at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), in 2008. Every year, a new commitee takes on the responsability of the projet, and decides on a new theme for the issue in development. Call for entries are addressed all over the globe and collaboration is open to professionals as well as students. Themes are usualy kept very broad in order to leave creative freedom to collaborators. The 1st issue of Pica magazine (released in 2009) had for theme ‘Typography’ — the theme for the 2nd issue (released in September 2010) was ‘Transformation’. The theme was expressed as an exploration of the constant transformation in mass media, in relation to the continuous flux of information. It illustrates the digital intangible matter in print. The folded poster was used as a jacket and cover for the magazine.
